There is plenty to get excited about this season. There is also plenty of distractions. I hope this list offers some new ideas for slowing down and bringing a comfort into the mix that only Advent and winter can bring. Here are 5 things we are loving right now.
1. The "Hark!" Podcast
After giving this podcast a listen, I understand why it’s so popular. Each episode gives a full history of popular Christmas carols and hymns. It gives context to the times it was written and some of the unique cultural nuances of those days. The "O Holy NIght" episode was great. A fun and easy listen for this season.
2. Homemade Ornaments
Look, there is plenty of pressure to bake all the baked goods and do all the crafts this season and have the perfect gifts and stocking stuffers. But this ornament DIY is easy and has the potential of hardly any mess. This tutorial shows a Grinch ornament, but you could really fill it with whatever you'd like for a festive memory with your family. Christmas memories without the mess? I’m in.
3. Giving Back to Others with Your Kids
Giving to others can be one of the most special things about this season. Knowing where to start can be overwhelming. Here are a few ways you and your kids can give back to others that brings meaning to your family's Advent and Christmas season.
4. Best Sugar Cookies
Everyone has their family favorite recipe for these holiday favorites. But this recipe (along with the buttercream linked with it) make the SOFTEST sugar cookies that last for a long time. Plenty of recipes have been tried, but this one is delicious, makes great cut-outs, AND is soft.
5. Festive Prints from the Shop
Nothing says Advent more than an image of pregnant Mary. She is the ultimate participator in the Advent season. I hope this image (or any from the shop) can be a quick gift for someone or something to adorn your own walls. May you be blessed this season with graces to last you into the New Year.
